With its focus on reducing the environmental footprint of their operations worldwide, DuPont laboratories have created numerous substrates that are 100% recyclable and manufactured with strict controls to ensure sustainability.
Marshall Hinds (Pty) LTD was appointed for its unique knowledge of the conversion of specialist synthetic products as well as the printing and building industries. The longstanding relationship with DuPont has enabled Marshall Hinds' comprehensive understanding of the market's needs and the technicalities inherent in the distribution, converting and printing of the varied product offerings under its distributorship.
The Marshall Hinds vision is to ensure that the construction, graphics, home and landscaping market sectors get the opportunity to experience the Tyvek® Touch as a way to enhance their business and product offering.
An important part of this vision is the ability of the Marshall Hinds team to find new niches where its product offerings have value in use. Initiating new projects, development and eventual commercialisation are what Marshall Hinds has become renowned for. Many of these new projects are unique to South Africa, for example the repurposing of Tyvek® into useful articles rather than the normal recycling route.
Tyvek®, Tyvek® Brillion®, Housewrap®, Tyvek® Soft, Airguard®, Tyvek® Enercor® and Plantex® are some of the products distributed by Marshall Hinds.
Tyvek® and Tyvek® Brillion® are traditionally used in graphics for forms, sheets, tags, labels, bank note wrap, banners and point of sale, event numbers and envelopes. The increased demand for Tyvek® from animators, artists and schools shows that the uses of Tyvek®, are only limited by the imagination.
Marshall Hinds has made significant inroads into durable documents for the South African government with bank note wrap for the South African Reserve Bank and Road to Health charts.
Housewrap®, Tyvek® Soft, Airguard®, Tyvek® Enercor® as well as sealant tapes, are marketed and distributed to the building and construction industry. Versatility, durability, strength and recyclability are the prime attributes of these products. Housewrap® has been incorporated into many of the more recent steel frame housing projects where it acts as a weatherisation barrier.
Plantex® and the gardening range are essentials for landscaping. The Plantex range is 100% recyclable, chemically inert and can be used without any risk to people, wildlife and the environment.

For more than 30 years, Marshall Hinds Pty (Ltd) has been the exclusive South African distributor of construction ranges from DuPont, the global leaders of market driven building science, recognized for the development of products based on non-depletable resources and reduction of greenhouse gases.
The Marshall Hinds construction range consists of Tyvek® Housewrap, Tyvek® Soft, Enercor®, Airguard®, Tyvek® Tape, Butyl Tape and Flexwrap™. All these products are part of the commitment from DuPont to making homes and building systems that help reduce operating costs, that are safer, sounder, look newer for longer and provide greater environmental sustainability.
- Tyvek® Housewrap® is a high density polyethylene which offers a superior strength-to-weight ratio. It requires less raw material and lower energy inputs in production compared to other vapour barrier membranes.
- Tyvek® HouseWrap® achieves the optimal balance of air resistance, water resistance and moisture vapour permeability that are key to an energy saving barrier.
- With Tyvek®, buildings retain their R-value and heat loss through walls is reduced by 33%. Tyvek® Housewrap protects home owners from costly energy bills and can usually pay for itself within the first 3 years through energy saving alone.
- The use of Enercor® and Airguard® boosts insulation performance of buildings by up to 20%, with up to 15% savings in home energy costs.
- Should the building structure need to be abolished Tyvek® Housewrap is 100% recyclable and if not recycled can be safely disposed of in a land fill. Tyvek® will not leach into groundwater because it is chemically inert and contains no binders. It also can be burned for energy recovery with essentially no residue.
